Hi! 👋
🗓️ It’s Thursday, 2nd, November.
My name is David Gozálvez, and I’m the writer behind this project.
🤓 I’m currently studying the fifth year of the double degree in Journalism and Audiovisual Communication in the University Miguel Hernández of Elche. From now on, I will try to bring you, in this monthly newsletter, all the Eurovision news that you can’t miss.
Let’s do this! 🎶
🇸🇪 First rumours about Melodifestivalen
The very best fans of Melodifestivalen, the national final from Sweden, should know that on this dates, the Swedish tabloid Aftonbladet is revealing the first names that will likely be competing on the show.
In the list, formed by 11 names out of 30, we see some familiar faces:
Dotter, the runner-up of Melodifestivalen 2020 with her international hit Bulletproof, will try again for the fourth time.
They are from Norway, but last year Marcus & Martinus, placed behind Loreen and were almost representing Sweden in Liverpool. In 2014 they will be on stage again.
In spite of her young age (25 y.o.), Lisa Ajax will be on the Melodifestivalen stage for the fifth time.
🇲🇹 Malta woke up early…
The island has been the first participating country in beginning their national final, this year called MESC2024.
Last October 27th TVM (the Maltese public radio and television) broadcasted the first of five semifinals, that will be being celebrated every week. From these shows, the audience will be picking out 12 songs that will participate in the grand finale, where we will know who will be representing Malta in Malmö.
🇪🇺…and some countries are still sleeping
From the 35 countries that have confirmed their participation in Eurovision 2024, we know that the majority will be celebrating a national final to choose their representative…but there are three countries that haven’t yet confirmed their presence on the show.
🇦🇲 Armenia’s situation is uncertain now. The country has been defeated on the Nagorno-Karabaj war, and Eurovision must be an extra thought for the Armenian government. Back in 2021, when the war was also in a complicated moment, the country cancelled his concurrence.
🇦🇺 The participation of the oceanic country is not sure. They were invited in 2015, and since 2016 is a usual competitor. The economic situation of the SBS (their public television) is, actually, the problem.
🇲🇰 In 2023 they decided to take a break. They aim to return in 2024, but time is running out and they haven’t chosen a way to choose their representative in Sweden.
🙋♂️That’s all!
See you in December…probably with more names and maybe the first song of Eurovision 2024…We’ll see 👀
